Our founders
In 1963, Bill and Gayle Cook created a small company that manufactured three simple medical devices used to treat patients less invasively than common surgical techniques of the time. That small company grew into Cook Medical, with manufacturing locations on three continents and delivering products to more than 135 countries.
Along the way, this entrepreneurial family branched out into other areas of business – to explore new types of medical tre atment, to support passions like historic preservation, and to support a growing group of employees and the communities where they live.
Cook Group was created to provide support and oversight to the Cook companies, which remain family owned.

Cook Group sells former GE facility property to Simtra BioPharma Solutions
Bloomington, Ind. — Cook Group has signed a purchase agreement to sell the former GE manufacturing facility on Curry Pike to Simtra Biopharma Solutions (Simtra). This transaction sets the stage for productive future use of the property and continued economic momentum in the Bloomington community. There are two parcels of land that make up the entirety of the GE facility property. Cook will be retaining the western parcel, which includes the supplementary parking lot for Cook employees, as well as the large retention pond, green space, future development areas, and walking paths. The other parcel will be sold to Simtra. No jobs will be impacted as part of this transaction, and the deal successfully closed on July 24. Simtra has a long history of manufacturing sterile injectable products at its Bloomington facility, which is located near its newly purchased property on Curry Pike. “This purchase is a key part of our global growth strategy to expand capacity for advanced injectable medicines and meet the growing demand in the United States,” says Raymond Guidotti, Chief Operating Officer, Simtra BioPharma Solutions. “It positions us to bring critical manufacturing capabilities closer to our customers, support innovation in areas like oncology, and strengthen our ability to bring vital injectable products to our customers’ patients worldwide.” Cook originally purchased the property and the former GE facility in 2017 with the intent of using it for both professional and manufacturing space. However, the COVID pandemic drastically changed Cook’s needs for physical space. During the pandemic, the company reconfigured the current buildings to allow for growth in its manufacturing space. As a result, Cook hasn’t had a critical need for this space for several years. As Cook sells the space, the funds will be reinvested into the business, allowing the company to focus on optimized manufacturing and certain product portfolios. “This in no way signals a change to our presence or commitment to the community,” said Pete Yonkman, president of Cook Group and Cook Medical. “This transfer will be good for the community, the local economy and the life sciences industry here in Bloomington. We are happy to see it go to a company that is also focused on innovation in healthcare.”
